Making a difference one card at a time.

Hey, did you know that Feb. 14-20 was officially Random Acts of Kindness Week?

I didn’t, but hearing about it got me thinking. With everything awful that’s going on in the world, is there a better time to amp up the flow of kindness? So this week I thought I’d share a fun easy product for making nice - Boom Boom! Cards. This unique game of guerilla goodness was created on the premise that like a boomerang, every word, gesture and thought we put out into the world eventually returns to us. So with that in mind, the goal here is to send out good ones in order to stage a global revolution of kindness capable of positive social change. Starting things off right, Boom Boom donates 10 percent of the online purchase price of any 26-card deck to charities around the world working to make difference.

Ready to do your part to make this planet a better place? Here’s how it works: Simply choose a card from the deck and carry out the designated act of kindness written upon it. Once completed, pass the card along to a neighbor, friend, co-worker, a store clerk, your barista or anyone else you can think of. You could also pin it to a public bulletin board, leave it in a mailbox or library book, on a windshield or a restaurant table, or tuck it under a door – be as creative as you’d like. The idea is to give someone else the opportunity to do something nice as well. After you’ve passed your card along, log onto boomboomcards.com to share the experience of your good deed (uploading videos and photos if you wish). Thanks to individual tracking numbers, you’ll also be able to follow the journey of your card as it makes it’s way into the world at large, allowing you to discover how many people your simple act of kindness affects along the way.

Need I say Boom Boom! Cards make a terrific gift?

Along with the original edition, there’s a family edition that helps teach kids the value of compassion, kindness and community (complete with blank Boom Boom! Cards for kids to make themselves, an activity board to chart progress and mission accomplished stickers), a teen edition with intentional acts of kindness to practice at home or school for 13- to 18-year-olds, as well as a Agent of Altruism deck that focuses on performing simple intentional “Acts of Greenness” in support of a healthier lifestyle and planet.

Hey, even if you’re already doing some nice things on your own, these cards offer a rather interesting and cool way to witness how broad an impact even a small gesture of goodwill can have, sometimes reaching thousands of miles away. Would love to chat more about positive change but alas, I’m off to fulfill my own assignment for the day. My assignment is to write a note to someone who’s inspired, motivated or transformed me and thank them for their influence on my life. Seriously who wouldn’t feel better after receiving a note like that? One thing I know for sure, I’m going to feel good writing it. Because the truth is, making a difference in someone else’s day is always bound to make a difference in our own. Learn more at boomboomcards.com.
