Monday, Feb. 6: City And Colour at Pabst Theater, 7 p.m. ($25)
City and Colour is the acoustic vehicle of Canadian musician Dallas Green. Though some have claimed the former Alexisonfire guitarist is going against his post-hardcore ways with the mellowed project, Green claims he’d been writing songs for the project since he was 16 years old (15 years ago), well before his stint with the Equal Vision Records staple. Now that Alexisonfire called it quits last summer, the Ontario native and sole C&C band member is free to put the entirety of his focus on his burgeoning singer-songwriter career. The Low Anthem opens. (144 E. Wells St., pabsttheater.org)

Tuesday, Feb. 7: Sigmund Snopek at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m. (FREE)
Aside from being a free show and one of the only shows in town Tuesday, this performance presents one of the state’s most accomplished musicians. Composer, bandleader, multi-instrumentalist and long-tenured side band player Sigmund Snopek does his thing at the Riverwest venue. (1001 E. Locust St., linnemans.com)

MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Wednesday, Feb. 8: Jeff Mangum at The Pabst Theater, 7 p.m. (SOLD OUT)
As front man and primary songwriter of Neutral Milk Hotel, Jeff Mangum achieved the status of indie rock royalty in the 1990s. Following the increasingly popular band’s break-up in 1999, Mangum set out on his own to create music out of the NMH spotlight in the form of solo works, contributions to The Apples In Stereo, and an eclectic range of other projects (both musical and otherwise). Last month, Neutral Milk Hotel announced it would be reuniting to play the Coachella Music Festival alongside some of music’s biggest acts, including the also-reunited likes of Refused and At The Drive-In. If you’re anything like me, you can’t afford to attend Coachella. In that case, this show will be the next best thing to seeing Neutral Milk Hotel in California this summer. (144 E. Wells St., pabsttheater.org)

Also: Hugh Bob And The Hustle at Hotel Foster, 9 p.m. ($5)
(2028 E. North Ave., thehotelfoster.com)

Thursday, Feb. 9: Heartless Bastards at Turner Hall, 7:30 p.m. ($15)
When you’re a standout in the Austin music scene, you’re doing something right. Carried on the strong, bluesy pipes of vocalist Erika Wennerstrom, the Bastards creep ever closer to mainstream viability with each new album. Arrow, due out next week, will likely be the band’s final step before a long-overdue breakout. New single “Parted Ways” has quickly become a standard in the rotations of independent radio stations throughout the country. Hacienda opens. (1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)

Also: Buffalo at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m.
(1001 E. Locust St., linnemans.com)

Friday, Feb. 10: OAR at The Rave, 8 p.m. ($27)
They might be responsible for some of the worst songs you’ve ever heard. And sure, maybe the band’s fan base is a who’s who of probable Crocs-wearing Spike TV aficionados. And, yeah, I bet you can’t be involved in a remotely strange game of poker any more without being reminded of them. But you have to admit that OAR knows its way around a grating, too-long, and all-around terrible song. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)

Also: Railroad Earth at Pabst Theater, 7 p.m. ($20)
(144 E. Wells St., pabsttheater.org)

And: Call Me Lightning at Quarter’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Palace, 9 p.m. ($5)
(900 E. Center St.)

Saturday, Feb. 11: Fresh Cut Collective at Cactus Club, 10 p.m. ($12)
Behind the proficient rhyme-spitting of front man Adebisi and the exceedingly tight and sleek accompaniment of his backing band, Milwaukee’s own Fresh Cut Collective brings about some of the best and most ass-shakingest Wisconsin hip-hop since, well, ever. Opening acts The Fatty Acids and Kane Place Record Club help make this even more of a can’t-miss local show. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)

Also: Cowboy Mouth at Potawatomi Northern Lights Theater, 8 p.m. ($15)

(1721 W. Canal St., paysbig.com)

Sunday, Feb. 12: Megadeth and Motörhead
If the winter doldrums have you holding a weak hand and you fear a fun February just isn’t in the cards, heavy metal royalty in the form of Megadeth and Motörhead will be your Ace of Spades during an otherwise fold-worthy time of year. Before Dave Mustaine and company do their thing, Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister and his crazy-huge mole will speed through the long-tenured band’s almost-50-year discography. Who knows, the mole might even sing background vocals.

Also: John the Savage, Netherfriends and Coo Woo at Riverwest Public House, 6 p.m. ($5) – (815 E. Locust St., riverwestpublichouse.wordpress.com)
